Sid & Eika Banerjee, Corporate Leader Couple

Interview

Sid & Eika Bannerjee

Meet Sid & Eika, leaders of the corporate world, she is a CEO & he a marketing head. Childhood sweethearts, married for twenty years, with 2 teenaged daughters, they’ve invented a unique way to keep each other intellectually stimulated through the year, every week!

Intrigued? I was too, especially with references to Indian mythology, the corporate world, leadership and the individual well being. This is a heady pill and there are 52 of them. #52Redpills

On my recent trip to Mumbai, I decided to know more so we spend some time with Sid & Eika in their beautiful and airy apartment. It was a relaxed Saturday morning, we had breakfast of Aloo parathas, eggs and chai. Both their girls where home and I was accompanied by my host in mumbai Bharti Mittal (got you ,not THE man himself but my dear friend from my UTV days).

There was so much to talk about and in between we did manage to capture some of the conversational drifts and their endeavor as corporate leaders through #52RedPillls

The idea was Siddharth’s to begin with and now both Sid and Eika dedicatedly work towards researching and gathering information on the curated topic of the week. To balance the demands of their corporate roles, both work in advance and have given up on indulgences like watching Netflix 🙂 Instead, they keep each other intellectually stimulated, learning, assimilating, discussing and connecting through these nuggets of information. 52 for each week in the year and the red pill is a reference from the movie ‘Matrix’ !

Connecting the dots with Indian civilization, mythology and the current corporate scenario in reference specifically to gender roles, I loved Eika’s perspective.

‘India is actually gender agnostic. The problem arises when we try to fit in a 60 or 100 year old management frame work to a heterogeneous civilization of over five thousand years. Gender roles are a very recent phenomena adopted from the MNC culture which is linear and binary. India is gender fluid. We end up projecting gender roles either when its convenient or when its expected.’

BTW Siddharth Banerjee is also a jury member on the SABERA awards. The entries are open for you to submit initiatives of your responsible businesses. Here is is a quick link to register and submit entries to SABERA , The Social and Business Enterprise awards, Recognizing Good.
