Samar Singh Sheikhawat, Kingfisher

Samar Singh Sheikhawat
‘How do you define success?’
‘पहला सुख निरोगी काया दूजा सुख पास में हो माया’
‘Wo Kingfisher Brand wali Maya?’
Imagine a teetotaler at the helm of marketing a beer brand. And a feminist at that , carrying forth the legacy of the Kingfisher brand with aplomb which includes scantily clad ladies across the spread of a glossy calendar.
A perfect gentlemen with a pedigreed education, Samar Singh Sheikhawat over a freewheeling candid conversation opened up about his formative years and the formal relationship he shared with the patriarch of his family. A father himself, Samar now ensures the bond he has with his daughter is far more relaxed.
On my recent trip to Bangalore , I hopped across to the 3rd floor of the UB Tower within UB City to reach the UBL office.
The office itself served only kingfisher bottled water! The Cappuccino more than made up for the beer.
Samar and I have known each other for a while but I finally noticed his uncanny resemblance with Richard Gere that day, especially with the shoulder length grey hair that he now sports.
The conversation was recorded within Samar’s glass cabin, where one of the walls had a sprawling presence of a Kingfisher model.
It made me wonder out loud ‘Kya ye hi Kingfisher ki Maya hai?’
