Pradeep Gupta & Vinay Singhal
One has played bridge with Shiv Nadar while starting out 35 years ago and the other has been the first graduate from his village in Haryana. Meet Pradeep Gupta, Chairman cybermedia and Vinay Singhal, Co Founder Witty Feed. While I have interacted with Pradeep or PG as he is popularly known in the media fraternity, many times including an interview through my stint as an RJ
in Radio City. Vinay, I met for the first time. Interestingly, I was interacting with both independently for the interview and I was pleasantly surprised to figure that Vinay actually worked from the Cyber Media office in Gurgaon. Witty feed’s head quarters remain in Indore and Dhaval Gupta, PG’s son, mentors’ Vinay Singhal, hence the arrangement.
26 year old Vinay claims to have been closed to filing bankruptcy 8 times in his entrepreneurial life span of 6 years.
Browsing through the 35th anniversary issue of Cyber Media he was very keen to know what it takes to build a brand that lasts long.
While PG wondered aloud why the Indian rupee is not what is being invested in the ideas that originate from India. The Indian ‘Lala’ as both PG & Vinay referred to themselves too, would rather sabotage the idea and do it in house.It seems the dollar or the Yuan finds more value in ideas intrinsic to us. A trend we all need to be aware of and hopefully take action beyond Make in India. The ownership needs to stay in India too.
Here is some food for thought- How many ‘ideas’ in any entrepreneurial segment do we see around actually belong to Indian companies?
